Good morning,
As of lastnight, Wirlaburla has stepped down as the webmaster of Worlio.com for the foreseable future.
What happened
To keep a long story short, a competing member of the Worlds community from where Worlio was conceived has disliked us for a long time, and has been using personal controversies Wirla was involved in ages ago to slander Worlio and get us blacklisted from other places in the oldnet sphere. Tons of rumors resulted from this behind our backs, including but not limited to myths that Worlio was a malware website, that we had stolen assets, or that we were a "nazi bar". For the sake of letting sleeping dogs lie I'm not going to elaborate any further on the beef going on, all you need to know is that we have been battling these rumors for years and it has taken it's toll on us.
The motivation to work on Worlio and progress it as a UGC platform, refining the Library system to compete with archive.org, had gone away after years of having to constantly fight for our reputation. Maintaining an archival forum is a community effort and cannot survive without it's connections.
What this means for Worlio's future
Worlio will continue to fully operate as it did before, including all additional services such as Jabber, Mumble, IRC, Traveler and Worlio Worlds.
Development of all Worlio projects have been cancelled for now. There's a ton of custom tooling in Worlio.com's infrastructure I am entirely unfamiliar with and I need time to get myself acquainted with how it all works, keeping in mind that I have other projects ongoing at the same time.
When development resumes, I would like to dial back the size of the site somewhat as it's been a victim of scope creep, and could benefit from having a more refined focus, but how exactly to do that effectively is unclear at this time.
Worlio will be transfered into ownership by Canithesis Interactive GP and will become a corporate asset once that company evolves into a proper LLC. The effect this will have on Worlio is nil at the moment, it's mostly just to help simplify the logistics of me running two entirely different companies.
Our content policy will remain the same. We believe in a truly free and human web, and that includes the same equal, fair First-Amendment based system we've always used. We never censor anything you post onto Worlio without an extremely serious justification first.
Looking forward to a bright 2025 with you all,
Bonk
