This will be a place for you all to share your desktop rice. Mostly concerning X11 & Wayland (so I'm looking at you LINUX and BSD guys) but if you have a cool Windowblinds theme on Windows then that's fine too.

I've been experimenting with Windowmaker recently, barebones window managers weren't really my thing until now as I tried a few CDE forks and they all were lacking in one aspect or another. Anyway, here's my new setup:

My first impressions are: If you're looking for a good WM that stands on it's own and don't wanna build a DE from scratch with Openbox, I think Windowmaker and Afterstep are great options. It's a little unorthodox and takes a lot more manual setup but I think it's worth it. The Nextstep interface has been really intuitive, and if you're okay with writing configs by hand I hear the competitor Afterstep has even more options to play with

I'm a bit late, but happy to see another Window Maker user in 2024!

I recently included it in an install of Debian 12 on one of my relatively under-powered machines. It runs wonderfully on it and all the other hardware I've installed it on so far. As somebody who always keeps their applications windowed and just generally needs to do a lot of multi-tasking, it's perfect for me. I find it to be one of the best window-managers for productivity out there.
