Honestly, Worlio looks nothing like any other site I've ever seen. It's kinda odd looking actually, but that's not a bad thing.

Oh yeah it's definitely its own thing, drawing from a variety of places. Not enough garish formatting, hit counters, or spinning flame gifs to be taken for a true oldie, but that's for the best. I always liked the style and feel of smaller forums over modern social media sites, though maintaining a large enough userbase these days to stay active can be a challenge.

More that I've never seen an actual retro site with popover animations and pixelated text. It's funny that it's all like "oh, this is dedicated to the old Internet!", and yet it's a very 2024 take on a forum. Again, not a bad thing--the only issue is how dead Worlio tends to be. I check it every day or three though.

Yeah, we have a unique way of looking the part. I'm not all for completely ditching everything modern when it could be useful or look nice. It's a bit hard to get forums up and running nowadays because most people stick to chats or places they already know. To be completely honest, we didn't even start out as a forum. When this site launched, there wasn't a forum at all.

I kind of missed the moment when a lot of discourse shifted to private chats on Discord or wherever, so it just seemed like either dead forums or million-bot subreddits became the whole of the internet. As long as Wirlaburla doesn't mind dodecaposting and beyond, I'll start filling up the art and literature section when I have time.

They're not picky about what you post here as long as it's in the right subforum, I don't think. I'd post my art more but I already post it to four sites, plus occasionally my own. I have to drop some of them sometime.

Hello hello! I'm Mike. I started using the interwebs via AOL back in the 90's. I remember connecting on an old 56K modem and racking up huge telephone bills that nearly cost me my life when my mother got the bills. Anyhow, I hate what the web has become - it had so much character during the Netscape and IE days. I currently use Trinity Desktop Environment because it reminds me of Windows XP which was peak operating system UI for me. Most everything these days is flat and bland. Skeuomorphism FTW!

Like others here, I get super nostalgic feels over retro tech, software, music, etc. Here are some things I miss dearly:
