Gopher, a once popular and still useful text-based Internet protocol is now supported on Worlio.

Users who view their fle manager will now see two directories in their ROOT: http and gopher. All existing files have been moved into 'http' for HTTP WormSites, while 'gopher' is for your own Gopherspace.
You will need a Gopher-supporting client to view your own Gopherspace, or you can use the Floodgap Public Proxy. Gopherspaces should be accessible under '/1/~USERNAME/'.

If you need help setting up your own Gopherspace, check out our help section on Gopher (proxy).

Have fun and gopher well!

This is cool. How are files in root handled now though? Aside from the obvious: "gopher port goes to the gopher folder and HTTP port goes to the HTTP folder". If I put files in root does that make it like a secret pocket? Can I put anything there at all? Or will it be used by future protocols being added e.g. FTP?

I think for UX sake the gopher and HTTP folders should be different filesystems (not literally, but to the user) rather than folders, but on a functional level I really appreciate the flexibility we have.

ROOT is like a secret pocket right now. Any files stored there are offline unless it's something we use (like 'http' or 'gopher'). I did it this way for flexibility, so as we extend what we support, we can provide that support to users easily. It was also because there was very little to change to add this support to the existing file system.
